SERVICES
Psychotherapy is a sacred process, one that creates a safe container for each of us to look at ourselves and those around us.
Life can be filled with joy, fulfillment, and peace. Nevertheless, as these elements energize and inspire us on this human journey, we also encounter more difficult moments, in which we may struggle with uncertainty, fear, sadness, pain, and loss.
It is somewhere in the midst of these experiences that we find ourselves.
Psychology is a sacred process, one that creates a safe container for each of us to look at ourselves and those around us, to make sense of our experience, and to identify ways to cope and heal, ultimately, to embrace reality for what it is. This process brings us to the present moment; all that we really have.
Individual Therapy
50-60 minute psychotherapy
In individual therapy, I work directly with you to address your psychological needs and goals.
Some people seek therapy knowing exactly what they want to work on. Others may pursue therapy not knowing what they want or could address. This is normal. Either way, the therapeutic process might be short-term to provide you with support, solve a problem, increase coping skills, or simply promote greater psychological health. In addition, individual therapy can be utilized to address long-standing issues, such as chronic depression or anxiety, trauma, or to serve as ongoing support during stressful times. My therapeutic approach is always grounded in scientific practice; it is pragmatic, and I maintain unconditional positive regard for my clients.
Couples Therapy
50-60 minute couple psychotherapy
We are hardwired for interpersonal relationships. Although they can be deeply satisfying, they can also be difficult and sometimes terrifying.
As an Emotionally Focused Therapist (EFT), I view relationship conflict as a symptom of emotional disconnection, often stemming from behavioral patterns that are rooted in protecting oneself, rather than being vulnerable and open, two necessary components of intimacy. This pattern is normal, but may cause significant distress if not navigated effectively.
EFT is grounded in decades of rigorous clinical research on attachment theory, emotional processes, and behavioral change. It is pragmatic, while providing an experiential depth for couples who want to transform and change patterns that are no longer serving them effectively and to help them experience deeper, more satisfying and sustainable relationships.
Groupwork
When it comes to normalizing human experience and feeling less alone, group therapy is often a powerful and effective process for improving mental health.
I have held groups in which individuals discuss some of their most vulnerable and meaningful experiences. In turn, they have been met with the reassuring support of fellow group members who resonate with their story, due to having comparable experiences. Group therapy can also be an important part of one’s social support, especially when social isolation and loneliness is possibly at an all-time high.
I offer group therapy periodically throughout the year. Group therapy typically occurs once a week, for six weeks. Sessions are usually 1.5 hours in duration and are attended by four to twelve individuals. Each group focuses on a specific topic or theme, such as building better interpersonal relationships, reducing anxiety and personal stress, etc. The activity includes a combination of information, the application of didactic skills and psychotherapeutic process.
Remote and In-Person Therapy Available
For the safety of my clients, I will conduct therapy sessions by video conference or by telephone. All COVID-19 rules are observed when therapy is conducted in-person.
Q & A
What can I expect in my first session?
During the first therapy session, we will discuss what has brought you to therapy and identify how therapy can help you by forming initial treatment goals and desired outcomes. I will ask questions about your past, especially as it pertains to the presenting issue, and you will choose what to share and not to share. Additionally, if appropriate, I can provide you with immediate action steps and resources to employ between our sessions.
What is the nature of the commitment that I should be prepared to make?
You are ultimately the person in charge of any goals that you may wish to achieve in the course of your therapy. I will make treatment recommendations, based on my professional expertise and your treatment goals. The frequency of therapy is typically one session per week in the beginning. However, bi-weekly and “as needed” sessions are offered and are appropriate, when clients desire them or the client enters the “maintenance” phase of psychological care.
Does my insurance cover therapy?
If I am not an in-network provider for your insurance company, I will provide you with the necessary information if you choose to submit your own claim for out-of-network reimbursement.
Will my insurance reimburse me?
To understand your out-of-network benefits, you will need to ask your insurance provider the following questions:
(1) Can I be reimbursed for out-of-network behavioral health services?
(2) If yes, at what percentage?
(3) Do I need to reach my deductible before I am reimbursed? What is my deductible?
Do you also offer therapy for transgender couples?
Yes. I provide individual, couple, and group therapy to all individuals seeking psychological support and services.
